"You see life is like that. We change, that's all. You see, the guy I am now is not the guy I was then. If the guy I was then met the guy I am now he'd beat the shit out of me. Those are the facts. "
 - Stevo - SLC Punk

The Anarch Movement exists, as an entity, entirely because the Camarilla give it both a purpose and a (relatively) safe haven in which to pursue that purpose. The smaller subsect is in many ways defined by the larger. It is true that the anarchs wish to birth a more equitable system of Kindred society, even to the extent of creating a governing body of undead, buyt they are still shaped largely by their desire to rebuild the old one. Wise anarchs recognize, however, that this must be done from within rather than from without, for the Camarilla not only provides the building blocks for the anarchs' future society, it insulates the movement from the other, far more dangerrous enemies. Anarchs not wise enough to recognize that fact are probably ignorant of those outside threats anyway.

Those anarchs who actually manage to obtain something in the way of status in the Camarilla itself - not the chameleons specifically, but simply those who have succeeded at playing the political game in hopes of changing the sect -- are subject to their own particular Faustian temptations. Its' not uncommon for an anarch to experience her first real taste of power and suddenly understand, "OH, that's what the elders are trying to hold onto. Can't say I blame them.." The most devoted among them manage to ward off the temptations of power and continue working for the betterment of younger Kindred, but many prove fallible. Some of the most power-hungry up-and-comers in the Camarilla are former anarchs who have abandoned the movement to line their own nest, as it were.

Anarchs hate these turncoats with a passion, but they also exhibit a tendency to blame the Camarilla itself for their fall, trather than their own lack of will. Just another reason the system has to be changed; it corrupts even those who go into it with the best of intentions.

This love/hate relationship with the Ivory Tower creates an interesting dichomoty in the anarch attitudes. Mention any given facet of the Camarilla, and you'll receive a veritable barrage of scorn, vitriol and mockery. Yet when the shit hits the fan and the Camarilla is menaced by threats from without, such as the recent Sabbat offensive on the East Coast, the anarchs are always among the first on the front lines, fighting back the enemies of the sect.

It often seems in these nights that the Camrilla is teetering on the edge of a knife, and the anarchs are just as precariously perched as everyone else. For a time, it looked as though the war on the East Coast could only go in one direction; had the Sabbat victory proven as unilateral as it first appeared, the Camarilla would have fallen to its weakest state (at least in North America) since before the Revolutionary War. Some particularly pessimistic doomsayers were predicting the fall of the entire sect on the continent. And the first anarchs. like everyone else, took note. For the first time, it seemed possible that the Ivory Tower might actually topple, that the Anarch Movement's future utopia was never to be.

The Camarilla turned the tide, of course, even taking New York from the Sabbat's grasp (and the anarchs have a great interest in the development of the city's nascent undead society). But the close call fot the leaders of the Anarch Movement thinking. Most of them, even those who support the "blow shit up" method of societal evolution, have changed their tactics.

Few Camarilla Kindred have noticed the change. The anarchs are still making a nuisance of themselves, still mouthing off at the worst times, still destroying valuable property and, on rare occasion, assassinating important elders.

What the anarchs are doing differently, however, is picking their targets. Cities near Sabbat territory have been struck less often, and when the anarchs do turn to violence in such a city, their targets are invariably Kindred who are relatively uninvolved with the city's defense. In cities some distance from the front, the anarchs are specifically targeting those elders who prove intractable in their hatred or disdain for the younger generation. Elders who show even the slightest hint ot a willingness to negotiate are left alone.

Nor is this change only among the more violent members of the sect. Politically minded anarchs are making deals and alliances like never before, sometimes approaching elders whom they would have avoided like the sun itself not two years ago. The movement as a whole has begun taking an active interest in prestation, not merely between its own members, but with outsiders. Emissaries are far more common now than they were before the East Coast situation, and more than one elder has been stunned by the anarchs' newfound willingness to compromise....on some issues.

The anarchs have realized that they can no longer afford to weaken the Camarilla with their activities. Thus, their efforts are now aimed specifically at pushing the Ivory Tower in the direction they want it to go, rather than causing random mayhem in the hopes of attracting attention. It's a subtle shift, and one that may prove ineffective. But at least the anarchs are taking the dangers of the modern nights seriously, something of which the elders appear incapable.

"We are all brothers of oppression, and
today, brothers of oppression are identified
with each other all over the world." - Malcom X

Hey there, you want a story?  Then shut up and listen.

As I sit here, I look at what I have accomplished since the day of my embrace. I look at the way I so arrogantly fought the system for the only true system, that which is chaos. But I begin to ask myself, why? I begin to realize a relation between everything.  From chaos to structured government.

Hold on now. Yes, I am an Anarch. I believe there should be no rules, only chaos. Fighting appears to be chaos. And when we fight, it shows it is. When we fight for a reason, like stupid Camarilla Kindred, we fight for what we stand for: Chaos. But fighting is a structure. Fighting is to establish power, power is government, and government is not anarchy. Government is war, and war is fighting.  Thus the circle continues.

You see, dude, our Camarilla scrimmages are cheaper versions of conventional warfare. War implies extreme government, because wars are fought to enforce rules or ideals, even freedom, but other people's ideals forced on someone else, even something like freedom, is still a rule, not anarchy.  Even as early as my fight, why did I love to fight? I framed it, but I still don't understand it. It goes against my beliefs as a true Anarch.

I know, you maybe thinking "Man, that's f**ked up."  Well, not the world, dude... Just the people in it.  Just keep your head low and don't screw up.

Anarch
A vampire committed to the abolition of elder rule.

Anarch Free Territory
A geo-political area controlled by anarchs (usually a city). Many anarchs object to the term Anarch Free State because it is an oxymoron.

Anarch Grapevine, The
A covert global web of communication used to smuggle information from city to city under the nose of the Camarilla and the Sabbat (and other antagonistic groups).

Anarchist
A mortal who supports a movement towards anarchy. Can also be a mortal who supports the vampiric Anarch Cause.

Ass-kissa
Slang for ancilla (because the spend so much time currying favor from elders).

Autarch
A vampire who does not involve himself in Kindred politics.

Barbs
Short for the Edict of Barbs, the formal response of the Justicars in regards to Anarch domains and turf. The Edict of Barbs' was issued on the final night of the Conclave of Portland (October 1999). It was brought about in response to a debate argued by several leading Anarchs with members of the Camarilla.

Blood Slave or Slave
The thrall in a blood bond.

Blood Slaver or Slaver
The regnant in a blood bond.

Blood Slavery
The condition of being blood bound. Also simply slavery.

Brand
A mark of scorn placed on an anarch for disloyalty to the Movement.

Branding
The act of marking an anarch as a snitch, a coward or a traitor. Gangs often go so far as to physically brand offenders with a sign denoting their offense (the origin of the term).

Cammie
Term for an acknowledged member of the Camarilla.

Cammunist
Derogatory term for a Camarilla loyalist. A play on the mortal term communist.

CoT
Short for the Convention of Thorns the formal name of the treaty that ended the Great Neonate Rebellion on October 23rd, 1493. Modern anarchs bitterly debate the Convention's relevance to the Movement. Some see it as a legal platform from which to argue rights while others see it as obsolete (and consider it to have been violated on both sides before the ink dried).

Effengee
Phonetic pronunciation of FNG. An unproven anarch.

Fence-Sitter
Derogatory term for an autarch.

FNG
Acronym for Fucking New Guy. An unproven anarch.

Free Territory
Short for Anarch Free Territory.

Gang
An association of anarchs united by a common ideology and methodology. Its members are always bound by oaths of mutual loyalty.

Go Anarch
To join the Movement. The formal method is to go before the prince of your city (or your clan primogen), renounce all Camarilla Status and openly declare yourself to be an anarch. This is technically legal (by treaty) but it certainly isn't considered wise. Many neonates have found themselves declared anarch by the prince (or their clan primogen) for merely associating with the wrong people (or otherwise offending the elders).

Great Neonate Rebellion, The
The neonate rebellion that swept Europe during the 14th and 15th Centuries. It began in England in 1381 and ended there in 1493. The Camarilla refers to this as the Great Anarch Revolt; modern anarchs promote a different interpretation of the event and use a term appropriate to their version of history.

Hazing
Informal tests a wanna-be must pass in order to prove himself to other anarchs. Until you have endured hazing, true anarchs will question your commitment to the Movement. You will not have access to the Anarch Underground. There is a huge difference between hazing and initiation into a gang; you should never confuse the two.

Initiation
The formal ritual that marks your full entry into a gang. Once initiated, you are considered a brother (or sister) of a sacred family. Initiations include ordeals designed to reveal weaknesses of character that would be a liability to the gang in high-stress situations. Initiations are far more intense than hazing. They also mark a point of no return; once initiated, it would be almost impossible to leave your gang without being branded a traitor.

Justy
Slang for justicar.

Loyalist
A member of the Camarilla (usually one who remains loyal despite having been mistreated). This term is used somewhat insultingly.

Merc
Slang for a member of Clan Assamite. This term is used somewhat respectfully.

Meth
Short for methuselah.

Mole
Slang for an infiltrator of the Movement or the Camarilla. Moles are almost always killed if discovered by the infiltrated sect.

Movement, The
Term of reference for anarch activity in general, that encompasses a set of shared or common ideals and goals.

Older
Slang for elder.

Revolution, The
The ongoing campaign to abolish elder rule of Kindred society.

Sellout
Derogatory term for an anarch who leaves the Movement to accept Camarilla honors. This is not considered outright betrayal but it still destroys the sellout's reputation.

Turf, Free Turf
A designated and bordered piece of land. Free as in Anarch held terriotory.

Turf War
A violent territorial dispute between rival gangs. Once a gang has claimed turf, it will try to hold that turf against all comers regardless of sect or clan.

Underground, The
A covert global network of assets that assist movement and smuggling of bodies, money, weapons, etc from city to city.

Wanna-be
Slang for a neonate who wants to be accepted as an anarch but has never actually done anything to prove himself (especially if he's had the opportunity).

Worm
A vampire who infiltrates the Movement. Worms are almost always killed if discovered.

Younger
Slang for neonate.
